In particular, society must acknowledge the “right to be forgotten”. It would allow cancer patients who are cured to get back to a normal life without being discriminated against for getting a job, or access to financial services such as mortgages and loans.”

The incidence of cancer is increasing in Europe with more than 4 million people facing the diagnosis on a yearly basis. However, tremendous progress has been made in the last decades thanks to a more comprehensive approach involving basic research, translational and clinical research. Prevention, early diagnosis, and optimal therapeutic strategies are essential and have resulted in a significant improvement of survival rate even for aggressive cancers.
Today, the European Commission is announcing its Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Commission’s policy agenda to improve cancer control and care. Additionally, one of the EU research and innovation missions that will be part of Horizon Europe is focusing on all aspects related to cancer – from prevention, to new therapies and to palliative care.
Against this background, the FEAM European Biomedical Policy Forum is planning its next Annual Lecture 2020 on Cancer & Immunotherapy (20 March 2020). This debate will contribute in providing suggestions on concrete actions to better manage and eradicate cancer. More information is available here
